My Prom Experience

The Dress
So mostly everyone bought their prom dresses in the summer holidays between year 10 and 11, but to be honest I wasn't fussed at all. People were posting photo's of their dresses on facebook and none really appealed to be (meringue doesn't really suit me). So I'll just stop talking about everyone else and focus on me - not in a vain way haha. It was only one day really when I went properly prom shopping with my mum in Cheltnem (I wasn't keen on the idea of ordering a dress as knowing my luck it would go wrong). So anyway we came across this lovely boutique (CoCo Bee Boutique or something..). I loved every thing they had, very my thing, edgy yet chic. Me and mum went upstairs and then I saw the dress, a cream maxi with a pleated halter-neck with navy lace inserts at the waist, it was the dress that I had had in mind. It was only £80 and when you consider that other people had spent hundreds of pounds on their dresses I think that you can understand! The only thing I ended up hating about the dress is 1.) the material, it was quite rough and the lining made it really heavy 2.) it was too long and I had to keep picking it up at prom - not a good look. P.S. if your wondering about whether to buy online please make sure you check out reviews, I know a lot of people who got scammed while trying to ship their dresses over to the UK.
Accessories
So I knew from the beginning that I wanted killer accessories, something to make me stand out from the crowd.. I think by the time of actual prom I only managed to achieve this with my shoes. The very same day I had bought the dress I also bought the shoes (I can't find any pictures on the internet but I'll definitely feature them if I ever do a shoe collection) and to be honest they are the most beautiful wedges I have ever seen. They were a gob smacking £75 but I loved them so much and thought I could wear them clubbing and things it was worth it. They were beautiful navy suede wedges with an amazing heel of around 5.5 inches (as well as a platform) and they were amazingly easy to walk in as well, wow! I also bought a navy lace clutch from ebay which was reasonably cheap and came in about 2 days (the day of the prom was when it arrived) and it matched perfectly with the lace inserts on my dress. Jewelry wise I had bought some lovely rings and earrings, but by the time of prom prep, I had no time to even put it on.

Pre-Prom-Prep
So my school decided to be absolute douchebags and have our leavers day and our prom all in one day. So my prom 'day' was spent at school from 9:00-3:00 running around, getting signatures from everyone and having to sit for 2 hours for the leavers service. To be quite honest with you guys this was ridiculously stupid as it was May, when it was really sticky summer weather, and when your inside a sports hall along with about 400 people it isn't a great experience. So by the time all of that had finished (and I was pretty exhausted already) I had to start my prom preparation, for all of my secondary school life I've been looking forward to prom as I was really excited about my dress, my hair, and all the fashion aspects of the day. If only I knew..

Prom Preparation
So at the start of 2012 I had made a new years resolution to 1. lose some weight 2. stick to my daily skin routine and 3. try to get rid of the horrible red bumps I have on my arms. All of these I had done none. The night before prom was so hectic, me having to spend 1 and a half hours getting my eyebrows and nails done (which to be honest was crap) and staying up till midnight discussing party outfits with my friend on skype for the after-prom. From about 10:00pm I noticed my nail varnish not only chipped, but began to peel off, so as soon as my leavers ceremony had ended me and my mum went down to the salon to get my nails done AGAIN - and she did them even worse than the last time!
I had to run down to the hairdressers (which I had never been before) and it was nice at first with two of my friends half way through their hair being done and us just chatting. But then this woman dragged me over to the other side of the room and asked me what I wanted, I basically said I wanted a messy up do and highlighted very boldly TO NOT SLICK MY HAIR BACK. The woman seemed to be stuck in the 80s or something because this is not what I wanted! She did an awful job and my hair felt so greasy and horrible with the amount of hair spray she used! If you are having your hair done professionally for prom PLEASE have a trial session first!
After running back home and literally shoving whatever I saw into several plastic bags we went to my friends house to get ready, and oh this is when the really stressful stuff began. When I arrived at the house I literally had 10 minutes to get ready and everyone else was already finished, and this is where the crying began. Yup, my 5 friends had turned into blooming sexy princesses and there I was, red faced, hair tugged and stressed beyond belief.
Literally running into the bathroom I only had enough time to apply my foundation and do my eyebrows before being constantly yelled out by the mother of a friend (she was mental). It's not a good idea to start yelling at an over emotional teenager getting ready for her prom who's already in tears.
So basically by the time it was the latest time to leave I had on my dress and shoes and no eyeliner/shadow/mascara/blusher/lipstick to my face whatsoever. I chucked a load of make up in my clutch in hope I could fix it but no such luck.

Transport to the Venue
The time spent in the white stretch limo was both fun and emotional at the same time. Fun because I was with my friends messing around being gangsta init 2k12 but emotional because I knew that I looked crap and wasn't looking forward to 5 hours of looking crap.

Prom
This is when I'm going to stop talking as much as there really isn't much to say, yes it was lovely to be with my friends all together dancing and having fun but I was dreading the prom pictures that would soon be arriving on my facebook page.

Well, my laptop is about to die so I will leave it there, any questions please leave below!

Sunday Summary #1

Hello everyone! So I hope your week has been better than mine! Monday till this very moment I have hardly done any revision since my history exam on tuesday - which by the way didn't go so well, I started babbling about Kristalnacht instead of Night of the Long Knives! Oh dear! I've literally done nothing all week apart from watching Studio Ghibli movies and spending time-io with the old bf. Friday was funsies though, me and the girls went from having a quiet movie night in to let's call it chilling at some metal head's house - casual. I've just finished uploading my messy bun tutorial  which had to be filmed on my webcam, poop.

I'm oh so nervous about next week, I have maths on tuesday, textiles on thursday and then 2 RE exams on friday (all of which I have done 0.5% revision for) - wish me luck guys, cramming is in order!

What have you been up to this week? Are you looking forward to the next?

Revision: Tips and Tricks!

Hello everyone, so I've really wanted to talk about my revision tips for quite a bit! But I thought it would be better to do a post rather than to make a video as I don't have time for the editing etc.

Just as a little disclaimer, these are my personal tips, and this may not work for everyone but I find these kind of things really handy!

Environment
I think a really important part of revision is to have a clean, organised environment. I'm a firm believer in the whole "your environment effects your subconscious" type thing. Since I've started my exams I have tried to keep my bedroom really organised and have a draw underneath my bed that is organised into different sections for certain subjects - I keep things that are more important to revise at the front of the draw and the not-so-important things near the back. I also think it's really important to have a good revising space, mine for instance is my desk! My desk is quite large so I also use it to keep my make-up, skin products and jewelry. So what I have done is cut my desk into two (not literally!) with half of my desk reserved for studying and the other half for other things!

It may not look all the tidy to you, but it works great for me!

I also think it's important to be in a calm environment, so find somewhere in your house (or even outside) and try to let out the stress. I like to create a stress free environment by making sure there aren't a lot of people in the house and listening to chill music and lighting candles! - I'm loving my YC Wild Passion Fruit

Favourite candles and favourites artists to listen to when revising

Organisation
I think it's really important to make sure you're properly organised when doing revision, however, I also try my best to avoid clutter. I know a lot of people are surrounded my books when they revise but I personally prefer to keep all of my notes together in one place. I remember watching FleurDeForce's exam video last year where she mentioned having a "project book", and I can't tell you how helpful it is! My project book was from staples and I think it was only £5 or so, it has detachable page separators and pages thick enough so the ink doesn't come through! I love using post stick notes to section everything off and is really good for a bit of cramming just before I go into the exam! Using highlighters and different pen colours are also really helpful as they help me group certain subjects together or let me remember things that need more revision on.

My selection of different colour coding equipment and my Oxford Project Book

Revision Material
All I can really say in terms of revision material is not to over complicate things. Personally I find it easier just to make notes from my past work and text books, but some people may like going to websites and copying up from there. What I like to use when making notes is my text book which gives a more accurate view on whatever subject I'm doing and then doing past papers so I get a feel for the exam, I usually do past papers without any help (but if I'm really stuck I'll refer back to notes and make sure to pay special attention to that particular subject).

Textbook, old work done in class, past papers
Also...
I just wanted to add super quickly that I find calenders really helpful to remind my when exams are as I do tend to forget! And as well as this please remember to take a break during revision - your brain will need it! Personally I like taking half an hour off every 2 hours! Keeping hydrated is also really good, I find it helps prevent the horrible revision headaches - and if like me you have trouble staying awake during revision energy drinks can help (but don't drink them too much.. don't want a Will situation from the Inbetweeners!)

TAG: Questions and Answers

So recently I have discovered the blog of one of my favourite youtubers, http://thenashvilletiger-howdy-do.blogspot.co.uk/, aka closesttoacowb0y! I saw this tag on her blog and fancied doing it as I don't really have anything else to blog about at the moment!

What is your current fashion obsession?
Anything bright! I've been loving mixing my normal style with bright summer colours, I've been totally addicted to this acid pink denim waistcoat and am planning on putting spikes on it, edgy huh?

What is your current makeup obsession?
I've never been that crazy about make up, but lately I've been loving doing my eyebrows! I feel like my face looks more 'noticeable' when I fill them in and shape them, is that weird?! haha!

What are you wearing today?
Oh lord it's so boring you wouldn't believe! I'm wearing high-waisted floral shorts with tights and a thick knit black jumpers, (random combo I know!)

Hair?
As always, straightened and back combed like crazy! (There may also be a twig or two as I have just come back from walking in the wood's with my boyfriend and his family, oh dear)

Do you nap a lot?
Nope never, I feel napping should only be reserved for the young, the old, and cats

Why is today special?
I guess because it's saturday, but revision is preventing me from doing anything fun (might go see the girls tonight though, fingers crossed!)

What would you like to learn to do?
Wow, what a question. I bought this little ukulele just before christmas, and have only mastered a few simple songs. If I could learn to do maths that might also be quite useful considering I have my exam week after next..

What's for dinner today?
No idea! Probs something with potatoes - my mum seems to think a meal isn't a meal without potatoes

What are you listening to right now?
Bombay Bicycle Clubs first album, Flaws. Best band I have ever seen live, could re-live that gig again and again!

What is your favorite weather?
Either a lovely sunny day with a soft breeze, or a really rainy stormy weather where it's nice just to cuddle up and watch a film :)

What's the last thing you bought?
Just got back from the corner shop with the boy buying revision supplies - i.e. lots of energy drinks, crisps, and Grabits 'chicken on a stick' (best things ever)

What are your essentials when traveling?
Pajamas, underwear (pretty), toothbrush, make-up remover wipes, CLOTHES and make-up (eyeliner is essential)

What's your style?
This is such a weird question, I suppose your style is what other people see you as having. If I was to be across the street and looking at me I would probably describe it as being: edgy, casual, maybe a bit grungy at times?

What is your most challenging goal right now?
"Motivation to revise" - couldn't put it any better myself!

What do you think about the person who tagged you?
I wasn't tagged! Awkward!

If you could have a house totally paid for, fully furnished anywhere in the world, where would you like it to be?
Paris! Never will there not be a time when that will not be my answer

Favorite vacation spot?
I've always wanted to go to Tokyo! If it was a girly holiday I would love to go to Italy or 'shagaloof' haha

Name the things you cannot live without?
Food? Drink? Shelter? Nah, those are boring answers. Literally could not live without the Smiths in my life, never been happier than when they were first introduced to me

How was your childhood?
From what I can remember my childhood was pretty good! Mainly consisted of me and my friends playing pokemon or imaginary games where we'd play dragons, yeah cool

What would you like to have in your hands right now?
Weird question.. Wouldn't mind a cheese toastie!

What would you like to get rid of?
My awkwardness! And people's wrong opinions of me, eww

What are you most excited for?
S U M M E R. Can't wait! Parties, independent holidays, so excited!

If you could go anywhere in the world for the next hour, where would you go?
Tokyo or South France, yes please

Which countries have you visited?
My parents used to take me to a lot of places when I was a baby, but places I actually remember include: France, Belgium, Spain, Canary Islands, Wales? haha, like that counts?

Yes, so I hope this was interesting! I want to tag Erin from http://missloopylouful.blogspot.co.uk/ if she even reads this blog haha!

Ciao! A little introduction

Hello everyone! So here is my first attempt at a blog! I'm really hoping that this blog is going to be consistent and as interesting as possible. So if you didn't know I have a youtube channel, it's called CiaoModa and it's something that has allowed me to make new friends and recently I've even hit over 300 subbies, oh my! So please check it out if you haven't already :)

So, I thought that I would write a little about myself, I'll do it in bullet point form as I do tend to waffle on a fair bit!

  • My name is Polly, my mum secretly wants to call me Pollyanna but we all know that is never going to happen (sorry mum!)
  • I live right next to a forest, and when I was little I genuinely thought that fairies lived there - I still like to think so, shh!
  • I have a really bad obsession with the film My Neighbor Totoro and Yankee Candles (but they are just both so lovely!)
  • I also am in total love with music, The Smiths have to be my all time favourite band and their music makes my life truly beautiful and being introduced to them was the best thing to ever happen to me - corny right?
  • Fashion and art are both things that inspire me and I really hope to have a career in it in the future, my fashion icon is Audrey Hepburn, what a icon
